Sync Options

Included in the Enterprise plan

Sync Options distributes configuration from the licence panel, without touching the computers and without group policy.

  1. Sign in to the licence panel and create a configuration profile.
  2. Choose which options that profile sets, and whether the user can change them or they stay locked.
  3. Assign the profile to the devices you want. Devices with no profile assigned use the default one.

Devices fetch the configuration the first time IEbridge is used each day, and also when the options are opened. Nothing needs restarting.

What it is for

  • A new computer is ready without being touched: when the license is activated it receives the URL rules and the settings you had already decided on.
  • The list of portals is written once, in the panel, instead of being repeated on every computer.
  • You can keep separate profiles per department, so each group opens in IE mode only what it needs.
  • You decide, profile by profile, whether the user can adjust something or sees it locked, and setting by setting what is fixed and what is left free.
  • A change reaches the whole estate within a day, with no visits to computers and no waiting for a maintenance window.
  • No domain and no Active Directory required: it works just as well for standalone computers, at home or in another office, where a group policy does not reach.
  • The configuration travels signed and the add-on verifies it before applying it; if it does not add up, it is discarded and the last verified one stays in force.

What overrides what

When several sources set the same option, the order is: default values, then the user's local settings, then Sync Options, and finally group policy, which wins.

In a profile that is not locked, the user can change a setting and the change is respected, but it is temporary: it lasts as long as the browser session and is discarded if the profile changes. An editable profile is there to try something out, not to override the profile for good.

Turning Sync Options off stops the configuration being distributed, but it does not delete the profiles: turn it back on and they are still there.
